Abstract | A PILOT STUDY PREPARED FOR THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE COMPARES ADULT EDUCATOR STATUS, RECRUITMENT, AND PROFESSIONAL TRAINING IN FRANCE, FLANDERS (BELGIUM), WEST GERMANY, THE NETHERLANDS, NORWAY, AND THE UNITED KINGDOM. MAJOR CONCERNS INCLUDE SALARIES AND BENEFITS, QUALIFICATIONS, INSERVICE TRAINING, SPONSORING BODIES, ATTITUDES TOWARD FORMAL STAFF TRAINING, THE LEGAL STATUS AND PUBLIC ESTEEM OF ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAMS, AND SUGGESTIONS ON PROGRAM EXPANSION AND DEVELOPMENT. THE REPORT CALLS FOR STEPS TO ANTICIPATE AND MEET TRAINING AND RECRUITMENT NEEDS, INCREASING LIAISON WITH OTHER BRANCHES OF EDUCATION, IMPROVING SALARIES AND BENEFITS, FOSTERING PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS, PROMOTING INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE OF INFORMATION, AND CONDUCTING METHODOLOGICAL RESEARCH, AUDIOVISUAL ACTIVITIES, AND ADDITIONAL COMPARATIVE SURVEYS.
