AbstractTHE ROLE OF KINDERGARTEN IN THE FUTURE EDUCATIONAL STRUCTURE IS PRESENTLY UNDERGOING REEVALUATION, ESPECIALLY IN THE PENN-TRAFFORD SCHOOL DISTRICT OF HARRISON CITY, PENNSYLVANIA. THE POSSIBILITY OF EXTENDING KINDERGARTEN FROM A HALF-DAY TO A FULL-DAY PROGRAM IS A PRIME AREA OF DEBATE. IT IS SUGGESTED THAT MODERN SOCIETY WILL SOON, IF NOT IMMEDIATELY, DEMAND A KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES A MORE CREATIVE, MORE SUBSTANTIAL CURRICULUM, WITH IMPROVED FACILITIES AND A TEACHER-ATTITUDE FOCUSING MORE ON INSTRUCTION THAN ON BABY-SITTING. A SAMPLE SCHEDULE FOR A FULL-DAY KINDERGARTEN AND A DELINEATION OF ITS GOALS IS PRESENTED IN THIS DOCUMENT. THESE ITEMS ARE BASED ON A PLAN DEVISED BY THE FORT MYER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OF ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA. THE ESTIMATED COSTS OF IMPLEMENTING SUCH A PROGRAM IN THE PENN-TRAFFORD SCHOOL DISTRICT ARE DISCUSSED. A STUDY DONE IN HAWAII, WHERE FULL-DAY KINDERGARTENS ARE THE RULE, COMPARES THE VALUE OF HALF-DAY SESSIONS TO FULL-DAY SESSIONS AND IS REPRODUCED IN THIS BROCHURE BECAUSE IT DISCUSSES MANY OF THE PROS AND CONS OF THE 2 TYPES OF KINDERGARTEN SESSIONS OF INTEREST TO THE PENN-TRAFFORD EDUCATORS.
