Abstract | THIS WORKBOOK FOR TEACHERS IS CONCERNED WITH IDEAS AND CONCEPTS THAT WERE CONSIDERED IN A JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL MATHEMATICS PROGRAM. THE ORGANIZATION WAS DETERMINED BY TWO MAJOR GOALS--(1) TO PROVIDE AN INSERVICE TRAINING WORKSHOP WHICH WOULD BE OF IMMEDIATE USE TO THE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL MATHEMATICS TEACHER, AND (2) TO PROVIDE THE TEACHER WITH AN OVERVIEW OF THE MAJOR OBJECTIVES OF A JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL MATHEMATICS PROGRAM AND THE THEORY UPON WHICH THESE OBJECTIVES ARE BASED. PRELIMINARY NOTIONS OF ELEMENTARY SET THEORY AND THE MATHEMATICAL SENTENCE ARE DISCUSSED BEFORE PROCEEDING TO THE NATURAL NUMBERS, THE INTEGERS, AND THE RATIONAL NUMBER SYSTEM. (RP) |
