Abstract | THE TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY OF DEVELOPING A COMPUTER-ASSISTED SYSTEM FOR FITTING MILITARY RETIREES TO JOB VACANCIES IN VOCATIONAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS WAS INVESTIGATED. A SAMPLE OF RETIRING MILITARY PERSONNEL WHO HAVE OCCUPATIONAL AND INSTRUCTIONAL EXPERIENCE WERE SURVEYED TO EVALUATE THEIR POTENTIAL UTILIZATION IN VOCATIONAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS. MINIMUM STATE CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR VOCATIONAL TEACHERS WERE DETERMINED, AND A COMPUTER-ASSISTED METHOD FOR FITTING OCCUPATIONAL AND INSTRUCTIONAL SKILLS OF SELECTED RETIRING MILITARY PERSONNEL TO AVAILABLE JOB OPPORTUNITIES WAS DEVELOPED. USING A DATA BASE COMPOSED OF THE PERSONAL HISTORIES OF 323 MILITARY RETIREES ACQUIRED BY QUESTIONNAIRES, THE INVESTIGATORS CONCLUDED THAT THERE WAS A NEED FOR VOCATIONAL EDUCATION TEACHERS, THAT MANY SUITABLE MILITARY RETIREES DESIRED TO FILL THIS NEED, AND THAT A COMPUTER-ASSISTED MATCHING OF RETIREES TO JOB VACANCIES IN VOCATIONAL EDUCATION WAS FEASIBLE. IN ADDITION, THE CONCLUSION WAS DRAWN THAT, DUE TO THE UNIQUE EDUCATIONAL AND OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR FACULTY IN VOCATIONAL EDUCATION, THIS AREA SHOULD HAVE ITS OWN TEACHER PLACEMENT SYSTEM.
