Abstract | In view of the development of global crises, fundamental social change is increasingly recognized as inevitable. The extent to which the individual willingness to participate as a citizen and to have a say in possible change processes can also be influenced in the context of formal and non-formal education is therefore discussed in an interdisciplinary manner; within the current discourse on music education, constructive impulses emanate from the concept of artistic citizenship. In this context, the construct of self-efficacy is assigned an important role; the aim here is for the students to be able to contribute their individual ideas to the artistically creative development process in a self-determined and reflected manner; making this possible seems to pose a challenge for vocal- and instrumental lessons, which tend to be perceived as teacher-centred. Against this background, why video-based self-observation can open up new perspectives, especially with regard to the autonomy and initiative of music students, is to be answered in the present text.
