Abstract | The importance of the French language is particularly noticeable in French-German border regions such as Baden-Elsass. However, increased linguistic needs and close economic, social and cultural ties do not automatically result in an increased demand for vocational French language instruction. The aim of this article is to present an overview of vocational French teaching as a neglected part of foreign language education using the example of Baden-Württemberg. In this context, student numbers, curricular tendencies as well as various initiatives for vocationally oriented French teaching and learning are discussed as well as the suitability of different models of professional competence for foreign language teachers at vocational schools. Subsequently, potential for the development of vocational French teaching will be identified. |
