| Abstract | The paper examines the attributive and predicate adjectives produced by 27 students of German (L2) in both chatroom and face-to-face small-group discussions. In addition, it compares the accuracy and occurrence in each context. The data indicated that students produced twice the number of attributive adjectives in the chatroom. The study also examined whether students produced more predicate adjectives in the chatroom or in face-to-face discussions. This time the data indicated that predicate adjectives were produced more equally in both discussion modes. Finally, the lexical range of the predicate adjectives was examined with the results that topic-related adjectives as well as very common adjectives were used more often than less common adjectives. The study demonstrates that, when properly implemented, the use of chatrooms may be one way to increase the number of attributive adjectives used by students. (Verlag, adapt.). |
