Abstract	This chapter addresses gamification as a potential method for designing refereeing courses and learning experiences focused on the VAR's skill requirements. The global and technological ecosystem that has enabled the implementation of the VAR into football competitions demands referees to achieve abilities related to digital and media literacy and soft skills associated with emotional intelligence. This work also introduces the new concept of "digital referees", which is strongly linked to observation, interpretation, collaboration, and decision-making through the use of Information and Communication Technologies.
