(DIPF/Orig.). Teachers' professional identity has a major impact on the way they teach and on their professional development and is therefore considered an important task in teacher education. However, quantitative studies examining the relationship between the formation of student teachers' professional identity and contextual variables are scarce. This article addresses this desideratum by examining the relationship between the factors teacher degree programme, subject combination and study phase and professional identity in a sample of 454 pre-service teachers. It also examines the extent to which pre-service teachers' professional identities correspond to individual school-specific ideal images or converge toward them over the course of their studies. The results show that especially the importance of the role of the subject matter expert is significantly related to the factors teacher degree programme, study phase and subject combination. Small effects can also be found in the relationship between the study phase and the importance of the role as subject didactician as well as between the teacher degree programme and the importance of the role as educator. Furthermore, a convergence of the self-image with the individual school-specific ideal image could be determined during the course of the study. (DIPF/Orig.). |
