Abstract | The purpose of this study is to adhere to the call proposed by Anaza & McDowell (2017) and to serve as a framework for consideration when exploring conditions under which regulations and policy interpretations similar to Title IX may be prescribed to deal with sexism within educational sport programmes. Sports are a global phenomenon and are enjoyed by many in almost every corner of the world. Regrettably, there are marginalised women and girls who lack opportunities to participate. Anaza & McDowell (2017) found that sports are perceived as a male preserve in Nigeria. To refute this ideology and increase female participation, Anaza and McDowell (2017) recommended athletics administrators, managers, community leaders, and other stakeholders initiate 'transformative processes that will limit individual, social structural, cultural, and institutional sexism' (p. 395). This study explores the recommendation of instituting educational athletics regulations and policies similar to Title IX. Research participants familiar with Title IX and Nigeria's educational athletics programmes participated in this study. The findings show that mimicking regulations and policy interpretations similar to Title IX may serve as a useful model to decrease sexism within Nigerian educational sports programmes, but there are challenges and barriers that need to be manoeuvred.
