(DIPF/Orig.). This paper focuses on exclusive secondary boarding schools - a private boarding school with a rich tradition and a state-run public boarding school for gifted students - with regards to the interplay between the specific school culture and the professional actions of their teachers. Using qualitative data such as interviews and classroom observations, this paper offers findings on the specific working relationship between teachers and students as well as antinomic figurations as the structural core of professional pedagogical action. The research aims to analyse the professional understanding of teachers and the reciprocal expectations of the school actors as well as challenges resulting from the educational work in exclusive educational institutions.
