Abstract | Even though academic achievement is the primary goal in school education, the goal to foster a positive emotional development in schools should not be neglected in order to create the best possible environment for academic performance. There are several ways to achieve a positive emotional development in schools: Mindfulness and self compassion interventions, character value education programs as well as sports and music classes are some examples. All these applications can promote emotional well-being and the development of self-love, which relates to emotional positive development in children and adolescents. The main limitation of existing programs, if they exist at all, is, that they assume that all children and adolescents respond to these programs similarly. This survey paper focuses on the importance of considering the personality of each child, which is evaluated within the concept of mindfulness, self-compassion and character and values programs as well as sports and music classes. This presentation suggests that schools should be centered around lessons of knowledge acquisition, which integrate short elements of mindfulness and self-compassion and of proposals of sports, music, arts etc. which can be chosen individually. Each child should be given the possibility to follow their own aspiration in both public and private schools. (Autor). |
