(DIPF/Orig.). The article is based on a qualitative video study and shows data from the beginning of school in an age-mixed classroom in which the older children are asked to be the mentor of a new child. The implicit and explicit assignments of these mentors are analyzed and set into relation to the actual tasks they have to fulfill in the classroom. Mentors are not only given responsibility for routine tasks but also for learning processes and emotional well-being of the younger children. At the same time, it becomes evident that mentor and new child are complementary asymmetric roles, which results in the necessity to negotiate status in the classroom. (DIPF/Orig.). |
