Abstract | The arrival of the millennials in secondary and postsecondary classrooms across the United States at the turn of the new century has paralleled the shift at American colleges and universities away from a traditional German major with its emphasis on literature and prompted educators to reconsider and revise how literary studies and the humanities are taught. Acknowledging and valuing our students' digital reading and writing practices and welcoming them into our classrooms carries the promise of bridging the generational digital divide and transforming our students into enthusiastic readers of German literature.
