| Abstract | The internet has become an essential part of people's everyday lives in industrial countries. But also in emerging and developing countries information technologies in general and the World Wide Web in particular are playing an increasingly important role. According to a survey by the Pew Research Center from February 2014 mobile phones and access to the internet are almost omnipresent in many countries, although most people in the 24 nations surveyed by Pew are still offline. Internet use is correlated with national income, as richer nations tend to have a higher percentage of internet users. The newspaper article at hand deals with the benefits but also with the risks online technology offers young people in developing countries. The didactical suggestions show that the article can be used as a basis of a sequence of lessons on information technology as well as on the lives of young people today. (Verlag). |
