Abstract | [The authors] discuss what is meant by participation in the digital age among Swedish youth and their use of Web 2.0 technologies such as blogs to engage with political activities. This study has attempted to explore which Internet activities merit the feeling of participation among young Swedes. By linking the Internet activities to the perceived feeling of participation we can better understand which activities young people themselves think it is important to engage in, in order to feel part of the information society. Thus, it is felt that the risk of ascribing young people certain characteristics in relation to Internet use has been minimized. [...] Using the internet does not automatically guarantee participation in the information society, hence assistance is required in order to engage them in relevant activities. (DIPF/Orig.). |
