Abstract | In the German tradition of "General Didactics", the two major concepts developed in the 1950/60s refer to quite contrarian strands of education theories. The planning model of Wolfgang Klafki - known as the Didactic Analysis - stems from human science education theory. Its renewed version (Perspectives scheme for lesson planning) is based on the Critical Theory of society. The second major model has been set up by Paul Heimann and his academic disciple Wolfgang Schulz and is known as the Learning Centered or the Berlin approach to Didactics. Schulz added aspects of general education, critical reasoning on societal demands, and theme-centered interaction. It is argued that both models provide the basis for a comprehensive, complementary approach in didactics integrating also the concepts of empirical research on learning and instruction.
