Abstract | In his article the author develops didactic and methodological principles which are relevant for the development of reading comprehension in the intercomprehension model Eurocom. His principles are based on empirical research carried out with students of Romance languages and address in particular the mental processes involved in the transfer from one language to another. The author demonstrates how a learner can apply his existing plurilingual knowledge in a variety of ways and shows the central role of the development of a "Hypothesengrammatik" which is continuously being modified in the development of foreign language reading competence. He emphasizes the importance of reading and decoding activities the learner should carry out autonomously. These are stimulated and enhanced by practicing the relevant strategies. In order to promote these, extensive didactic materials have been developed in the intercomprehension programme presented in the article. These materials are being updated continuously on the basis of learner feedback and geared to the learners' needs. This approach entails an intensive use of electronic media which, at the same time, favour a differentiation and individualization of the learning process. (Verlag, adapt.). |
