Abstract | Drawing on recent results in foreign language teaching research, according to which the teaching method of involving the learners' native language in L2-lessons does have a positive effect and thus deserves a more positive valuation, the author argues that this method could generally be enriched by additionally imparting genuine linguistic knowledge. This means that the goal of the contribution is to show how elements of the most varied linguistic disciplines can be used to provide non-university L2-learners with glottological and interdisciplinary knowledge of language(s), which will enable them to approach and solve grammatical problems more easily and autonomously.
