Abstract | This article is based on new research work entitled "Active schooling theorists put to the test of real practice: 'the Adolphe Ferriere case"', conducted by Daniel Hameline and Remy Gerber with the contribution of the Swiss National Fund for Scientific Research. It is a historiographical and biographical survey about a learning experience conducted by Ferriere in the early 1920's. The article aims to confront some passages from his classic book, La pratique de /'école active (1924) with two texts founding his own records: le Journal de notre petite classe, co-written by members of his staff during this very experience, and a personal diary entitled le Petit journal. The study of the differences between the 'two types of sources raises, from different angles, the issue of the links between practice and the report that could be written on it afterwards.
