(DIPF/Sch.). The last decade is experiencing a growing interest in human rights education, as this approach offers knowledge, values and competencies in order to cope witch such challenges as racism, religious intolerance, globalisation, the consolidation of democracies and terrorism. The effort to develop in citizens an awareness of human rights, the willingness to accept the same rights of others and to support the defence of the rights of all people according to one's own possibilities. Human rights education means: empowerment of the citizens. Human rights are legally recoverable rights of the citizen towards the state, as well as mutual moral rights that citizens can ask from each other. Human rights education has a critical momentum: it enables the learner to judge the policies of states as well as the behavior of the citizens against human rights standards. (DIPF/Orig.). |
