| Abstract | It is very common to believe that the use of ICT promotes high level learning. Today it is agreed that using ICT can enhance learning if pedagogical points of view are considered in applying technological solutions. Technologies offer interesting opportunities but they do not guarantee high level learning. In this article I consider the idea of using video clips in learning, especially in learning of skills. Video clips are short digital movies. They are considered in the frame of skill learning theories in this article. In practice video clips were made in the didactical course of craft design and technology as a part of national FISTE-course. In-service teachers and student teachers made video clips and pedagogical scrpits (n=20). The idea was to consider the pedagogical use of the clips. There were made three types of clips. Instructional clips presented some technique how to shape the material in three-dimensional form. Guiding clips presented how to find material appropriate to some specific technique. Tip-clips offered some tips how to use digital material in making something. Pedagogically there were two types of uses presented. The use of clips supplemented the traditional face to face learning situations as an additional material or it was scripted to be used as an individual learning material independent of time, place and person. The conclusion is that video clips offer an interesting way to combine technology in learning of skills. There are lots of possibilities to use them in different types of situations. However, the usability, especially the quality and availability of video clips raises questions for the future. (Orig.). |
