Abstract | The author questions the validity of the experimental method in social psychology which aims at studying the effects of pedagogical practices on student behaviour and learning. The examination of classical models of social influence and of recent research on the impact of expert sources in the process of knowledge transmission tends to point to the importance of an interactionist perspective. In this respect, a complete grasp of the impact of pedagogical practices requires taking into account the learning contexts as well as the social background of the students. In conclusion the authors present some recent work that underlines the impact of social comparisons on the concept of competency as well as on the pleasure of reading of boys and girls.
