Abstract | This article takes up some of the findings of a thesis on reasoning by analogy in the written productions of fifth formers in the history course. the theories on learning by Vigotsky and the social representations by Moscovici shed light on the transformations of knowledge operated by students when they draw near, by way of these analogies, historical knowledge and social thought, scientific concepts and current everyday concepts. It would seem that students generalize and get hold of historical concepts not via abstraction but by indexing the concept to concrete situations and characters, following the model of generalization by individualisation.
