Abstract | The author provides detailed information of the education reform process that was initiated in the 1980s and which through a long and apparently thorough process has laid down education policy that is designed both to do away with traditional expectations of extreme competitiveness in examinations and university entrance, and to create a system that is more humanistic and skills-based. He also describes trends in the tertiary sector in terms of marketisation, privatisation and the establishment of inter- institutional competition for students. (DIPF/orig.). |
