Abstract | This article presents a debate between a practitioner and a researcher over the potential uses and purposes of ethnographic methods. George Spindler, a trained anthropologist, contends that ethnography is a discipline that seeks to describe and understand the cultural experiences of others. Lorie Hammond, a teacher educator, maintains that practitioners can adapt the tools of ethnography to solve problems related to their own classroom practices. (DIPF/orig.) |
