Abstract | Two ranges of questions are raised by the current prospects about the processes of change in school organization, regarding innovation transfer on the one hand and networks on the other. This paper takes up these questions, showing that they are closely connected. ... Based on a research carried out on innovating teams within schools with the methodological tools of the theory of translation, this paper tries to show that innovation is primarily a transformation process of the dynamics of relationships at work. It enables to bring out some structural ingredients required for any transfer process. For innovation to be transferred, it is essential that negotiation and controversy might develop. They allow the cristallization of new objects or modes connecting people in a new system. This also implies passing from a vertical to a horizontal system of relationships. It seems important to understand that it is not the quality of innovation which makes it to succeed or fail but the quality of the systems of relationships which thus constitute the very foundation of the transfer of innovating practices.
