| Abstract | Conflict among peers ... persists throughout the school years. Although peers are witnesses to the aggressive incidents, many children are reluctant to intervene or to inform adults. Fortunately, we can balance these reports of bystander indifference to victims of peer- led aggression with reports of co-operative and supportive behaviour on the part of the peer group. ... In the light of the literature and evidence obtained from a pilot study and a large-scale survey, the effects of peer group support systems on actual and potential users of peer support systems, peer supporters and the school as a whole, teachers are discussed. It is concluded that peer support has benefits both for the victims of bullying and for the school climate. (DIPF/orig.) |
