Abstract | The whole staff dealing with education feels more and more concerned with school failure in North America. Moreover, the extent of this phenomenon is difficult to evaluate because people don't agree with a common definition of success and failure at school. This article gives an account of school failure in the United States and Canada through adding up statistical data issued from investigations on children learning difficulties, pupils having fallen behind and drop outs. These data give an overview of the extent of school failure in primary and secondary schools in these countries. It reveals that phenomenon affects much more boys than girls and that its origins and symptoms are manyfold. (DIPF/orig.) |
