Abstract	The report reviews a number of questions on issues of central importance which were provided in a "checklist for authors", elaborated by the Academic Cooperation Association (ACA) on the project "Internationalisation in European Non-University Higher Education". The report is a case study about the transformation and upgrading of colleges of engineering and business, as well as higher professional colleges in the field of education, fine arts, design, music, health and social work into a new type of "university of applied sciences", called Fachhochschulen (FH) in Germany, Hautes Écoles Spécialisées (HES) in France, or Scuole universitarie professionnali (SuP) in Italy. It is divided into the following sections: 1) The Fachhochschulen / Hautes Écoles Spécialisées: a brief overview. - General priniciples; - Cantons creating regional Fachhochschul networks; - Competitive research and development funding as a lever for internationalisation of the FH/HES. 2) The "internationalisation" of the Fachhochschulen. - General remarks on the degree of ' internationalisation' of the country and its universities; The situation of the Fachhochschulen / Hautes Écoles Spécialisées; The different meaning of notions like "foreign" or "national" in Switzerland; The former status of the FH/HES as a handicap to their internationalisation; New promising efforts of 'internationalisation' in certain FH/HES and fields of study; language barriers are no serious handicap to internationalisation; Internationalisation of FH/HES in specific fields of study; Instead of a conclusion - comments on the "checklist for authors".
