| Abstract | Pupils learning German in the French-speaking part of Switzerland have representations about Germany, the german language... and about the German-speaking part of Switzerland. These representations sometimes seem to influence the process of learning German. The authors have elaborated observations in some classes, on the hypothesis that discourse is not only where these representations circulate, but is also a tool for re- evaluating them. The goal of the study was to have a better understanding of the links between representations and learning, and to act on them. The results show that a "working" relativity and transformation exists, when the representations are in the centre of a discursive and didactical activity. The results also show that it is not so easy to question these representations as they are anchored into a cognitive, discursive and identitary process, concerning the apprehension and the construction of the reality.
