Abstract | (The authors) have made a proposal to identify the fundamental elements of the glue that joins Europeans together. Those elements must be the object of special attention by any minimally lucid education and cultural policy. Giving an imaginative and profound answer to the challenges of our times is not an easy task. Perhaps, then, it would be best to conclude by pointing out the most notable challenges we must find an answer to, if we are not to disappear as a culture. First, Europe must take efforts to redefine the place of reason in human existence, its possibilities and its limits... Second, it is necessary to give up narrow nationalisms... Third, it is necessary to overcome economicism and the thirst for private gain... Fourth, it is necessary to recover ethical and religious conversation in the public forum.... Fifth, it is necessary to promote a new cultural synthesis for the times...(DIPF/orig.). |
