Abstract | Papers from an international workshop. "The guiding questions of the workshop were: What are the characterstics of parental choice programs in different societies? How do these choice programs affect school organization and student achievement? And what can we learn from parental choice in order to make schools more innovative, productive, and just?" The volume encludes papers which "offer overall approaches based on philosophical examinations of the assumptions underlying parental choice, as well as empirical studies on parental choice impact. Other papers describe and analyze the experience from several programs concerning school autonomy and parental choice taking place in different countries. These range from a description of East Harlem choice schools and the Minnesota choice plan ... through the Israeli experience ... to an analysis of recent state reform policies in Great Britain and the Netherlands.... Other presentations ... address issues of school autonomy, community involvement and their linkage to school accountability, educational improvement and social equity". (DIPF/orig.). |
