Abstract | The article develops ... the "management route model", a framework for analysing the different and very complex factors influencing gender issues in Dutch educational management. A short statistical presentation suggests that Dutch women are even more under- represented in educational management than their colleagues in other Western European countries. The main thrust of the article is to present [the authors'] research concerning how women obtain and hold educational management positions. [The management route model] analyses all the obstacles facing women educational managers at each of the three stages of career development (preparation for the position, seeking positions and performance). The aim is to develop a model which can take account of a broad range of factors and the full complexity of the situation. The context is that of policy research and development over two decades and ther authors highlight certain shifts in policy and structure which should contribute to improving the representation of women in educational management in the Netherlands. These include joint headships, part-time management functions, targeted recruitment and training courses. (DIPF/Vorwort). |
