| Abstract | The Polish school is the subject of many popular common-place, often controversial opinions. This results from the fact that schools are differently perceived and evaluated by pupils, differently by teachers and parents. So the author tries to answer some fundamental questions like: What are the criteria of subjective evaluations and emotions expressed in the opinions formulated by pupils of various types of schools about school? What is the school reality as assessed by pupils of lycees of general education? What is "the school of their dreams"? The answers to those questions were contained in the findings of research carried out by the author among pupils of lycees of general education and of elementary schools in the area of the Kielce province. On the basis of those findings a general image of the Polish school was presented, as well as the criteria applied by the pupils under research to assessment of their teachers and schools.
