Abstract | Educational research often has its own distinctive characteristics in different countries, reflecting diverse cultural and historical origins. Here the author maps out the emergence of German traditions of research, with particular attention to how both critical and empirical tradition have grown and diminished in their popularity in response to varying social and educational demands. A form of research which is self-critical and reflexive is advocated as most fitting for present-day, complex Western societies with multiple value systems. (DIPF/Text übernommen) |
