Abstract | The community college environment is complex and dynamic, requiring constant monitoring. To ensure that workforce education, a core component of community colleges' missions, remains aligned with colleges' environments, responsive to employers' needs, suited to students' interests and abilities, and current in content and technology, it is critical that institutions understand what is happening in the labor market. These labor market data illustrate the importance and magnitude of workforce education in postsecondary education. In addition to describing various sources of labor market data, this chapter examines how community college administrators and faculty use labor market information in the development and evaluation of career and technical education (CTE) degrees and certificate programs.
