AbstractModifying course plans to accommodate diverse learners seems simple in theory. However, when faced with specific applications, many teachers feel lost. In a school community, they need not feel alone. General classroom teachers have several sources of ongoing support available to help them extend their teaching repertoire to meet their students' special needs. Though most teachers have gained basic knowledge of inclusive teaching strategies as required for certification, all teachers should continue to stay current with contemporary special needs pedagogy. By integrating teaching strategies to accommodate all learners, teachers have optimal opportunities to broaden their awareness of learning styles and to adapt their pedagogy and curricula to meet the unique needs of every student. "Who can help the classroom teacher determine which students will benefit from modifications, and what strategies may be most effective?" Seeking guidance from those who have a vested interest in students with special needs may avoid blunders. Often, even a simple recommendation on classroom management or an alternative instructional strategy may prevent a potentially uncomfortable situation. The authors believe that together, teachers, colleagues, specialists, parents, and other students can create a learning environment inclusive of every student. (ERIC).
