Abstract | In this article, the author shares the background of James Daugherty in music education, a band director who was elected to serve as president of the North Carolina Bandmasters Association, the highest leadership role for a band director in the state. His passion for music only grew in high school, where he gleaned both musical and life lessons studying under band director John Blakemore, who instilled confidence and a sense of community in his students that Daugherty still extols today. After majoring in music education at Appalachian State University and pursuing his graduate degree there, he took the band director job at Central Davidson High School in Lexington, North Carolina, a post he holds to this day. An interview with James Daugherty is also presented. (ERIC). |
