Abstract | In this paper, N. L. McCaslin, director of the Professional Development Academy for the National Dissemination Center for Career and Technical Education, imparts his views regarding the elements necessary for a great professional development experience. According to McCaslin, professional development should align with the efforts of individuals as well as districts and/or agencies, it should result in new knowledge and skills for the participants, and it should also value those participants as contributors. This article also addresses recent trends in professional development and reports the results of a new survey conducted by the Association for Professional Development in Career and Technical Education.
