Abstract | Studies 220 male inmates at New York's Sing Sing correctional facility to determine why and to what extent they attend school in prison. Primary reasons were to better themselves, take the General Educational Development exam, and get a good job when released. Eighty-five percent attended prison school; more than half acquired a high school equivalency diploma. (JOW) |
