Abstract | Active music listening is a creative activity in that the listener constructs a uniquely personal musical experience. Most approaches to teaching music listening emphasize a conceptual approach in which students learn to identify various characteristics of musical sound. Unfortunately, this type of listening is rarely done outside of schools. This article establishes a framework for teaching music listening as creative by maximizing students' individual and diverse ways of listening. (As Provided). |
