Abstract	This document contains Volume Eight of the "National Series" of the "American Journal of Education." This volume for 1873 contains a general index to the principal subjects in history, biography, systems, institutions, principles, and methods of education contained in the previous volumes (I-XXIV). Articles in issues 29-32 topics including superior instruction, the university, German pedagogy, French pedagogy, educational biography, chapters in the history of American schools and education, English pedagogy (old and new), school architecture, public instruction in Finland, state systems of common schools in the United States, history of American schools, early Christian schools, teaching orders of the Catholic church, English universities, military systems and schools in Russia, language and literature of ancient Greece in England, national systems of public instruction, superior instruction in different countries, and professional and special instruction. Issue 32 provides indices to volumes in the "American Journal of Education" collection. With this volume (VIII of "National Series," and 24 of "Entire Series") the "National Series" of the "American Journal of Education," commenced in 1861, comes to a close. Including two supplementary volumes [one to Volume II (18 of the "Entire Series") and the other to Volume VII (23 of the "Entire Series")], which are devoted almost exclusively to the circulars and reports of the United States Commissioner of Education, not included in other volumes, the "National Series" embraces 10 volumes, which present a more comprehensive survey of the entire field of national systems and institutions of education in all countries in which schools for general or special purposes have been recognized and administered by law, than is to be found in the same number of volumes in any language.
