Abstract | In the village of Pine lies Pine School. While the school has historically been considered a quality school, the proficiency levels in math MAAP assessments have been lower in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade than 6th grade, by a substantial margin. In this action research program evaluation study, a mixed-methods approach was utilized to discern the effectiveness of a program moving from whole-group instructional practices to small group and centers based collaborative practices. The intent of this program was to simultaneously raise MAAP assessment proficiencies, teacher efficacy, and teacher and student attitudes toward the learning goals and structures. While the program did not meet all of the quantitative program goals, strides were made toward improving student achievement, personnel attitudes, and collaborative practices. Implications for the further implementation of the program were also discovered and shared. This study is a small part of the continual, multi-year effort to elevate Pine School to the level expected by all stakeholders.
