Abstract | The purpose of this case study using a mixed method approach was to examine the role of that correctional educators in an Arizona state prison based on their challenges, attitudes, and motivations in order to learn how best to prepare people for that role. Although the research on public school teachers and teaching in adult education practices in North America has been extensive, there has been comparatively little research on correctional education and correctional educators. The delivery of quality correctional education programs is challenged by the prison context and the diversity of the educational levels of the prison population. Using two written instruments, this study analyzed what insights the experience of this group might offer about what preparation people need in order to succeed in teaching in prison.
