Abstract	This guide describes the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) certification process. There are eight chapters in three sections. Section 1, "Getting Ready," includes (1) "Introduction"; (2) "Materials and Strategies" (downloading materials, developing a schedule, survival strategies, and changes in the National Board assessment process); and (3) "The NBPTS Standards" (embodying the standards, creating a standards notebook, and providing evidence). Section 2, "Putting Your Portfolio Together," includes (4) "Following Directions" (format of the portfolio instructions, rules for submission, and portfolio-related terms); (5) "Preparing Written Commentaries" (description versus analysis versus reflection and portfolio scoring); (6) "Collecting Examples of Your Teaching Practice" (student work samples and videotape entries); and (7) "Documenting Accomplishments." Section 3, "The Assessment Center," includes (8) "Assessment Center Process" (e.g., assessment center appointment, regulations and procedures, preparing for the exercises, taking the computerized test, anxiety tips, commonly asked questions, and feedback information.)
