| Abstract | The purpose of this book is to help equip students with some of the concepts, attitudes and skills for successful cross-cultural understanding. The emphasis is on the exploration of cultural perspectives, both of themselves and others. The book is divided into chapters devoted to particular themes and uses the kaleidoscope of various world cultures as examples for each of the themes. The focus is on the culture only insofar as it illustrates the central theme and is not an exhaustive study of any one culture. The chapters include: (1) "Language"; (2) "Space"; (3) "Time"; (4) "Relationships"; (5) "The Individual and the Group"; (6) "Moral Values"; and (7) "Work and Leisure." The activities of the book illustrate the cultural information and concepts offered in each lesson. The activities are considered to be collaborative, interpretive, constructive or cross-cultural. Each chapter consists of a general introduction, some exercises to explore the concept, and three to six lessons. (EH) |
