Abstract | This Spanish-language report outlines 10 multicultural principles for Head Start preschool programs and ancillary services. The report assets that Head Start programming should: (1) treat every child as an individual; (2) represent the cultural groups in the community; (3) emphasize accurate information about cultural groups and discard stereotypes; (4) address cultural relevance in making curriculum choices; (5) allow individuals to retain their cultural identity; (6) provide for native language instruction and the acquisition of English for children with limited English ability; (7) have respect for and understanding of other cultures; (8) examine and challenge institutional and personal biases; and (9) ensure that culturally relevant and diverse programming and practices are incorporated in all components and services.
