AbstractThis report examines statewide planning and budgeting for educational technology in the 15 states covered by the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB), with a focus on state-level expenditures for telecommunications networks, microcomputers, software, and other technology. Capsule descriptions of each state's current activities are provided, and recommendations for future study are offered. Figures provided in this report were gathered over the past year from state plans and budget reports, and from telephone conversations with individuals responsible for educational technology across the SREB region. The cost figures presented apply to the technologies used in both administration and instruction. Spending patterns in K-12 and higher education are considered, and comparisons between estimated costs and actual expenditures are made when possible. Two tables report the numbers of microcomputers and the amount of video equipment used in K-12 education on a state-by-state basis. The information provded was up-to-date as of October 1, 1991, and covers the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
