Abstract	To provide students in grades 9-12 with accurate information on American Indians and thereby increase the number of Americans who understand Indian cultures and their contributions to American society, the 10- to 20-week social studies course emphasizes the study of Indian culture and heritage and presents the basic concept of cultural conflict. The course describes the effect of cultural conflict on Indian-White relationships and develops a greater understanding of the current situation of American Indians. The outline includes objectives and explains how students can apply basic skills in the course work. The outlines for the 14 units contain information about the origins, attitudes, values, population, government, family life, plant use, spiritual philosophy, self expression, and education of American Indians. The units also outline information about Indian contact and exchange with other cultures, U.S. government policy toward Indians, treaties, contemporary issues, and stereotyped images of Indians. The volume contains a bibliography. (SB)
